- British Literature is a college prep. course covering British history, art, music and literature from 450-2000 A.D. Students read classics such as Beowulf, The Canterbury Tales, Macbeth, Hamlet and Frankenstein. Writing includes an Anglo-Saxon poem and two research papers.
- World Literature is a genre-organized course covering short stories, drama, non-fiction, and poetry from around the world. Students read classics such as “Flowers for Algernon,” Julius Caesar, Night, and the King Arthur legend. Writing includes analysis and persuasive essays and a quest narrative.
- Creative Writing is an English elective course where students improve their creativity and writing skills by composing short stories, planning a novel, drafting a screenplay and writing multiple forms of poetry. Two research presentations are also required.

- Born in Hillsboro, Oregon; graduated from Tigard High School
- BA Degree in English from the University of Puget Sound
- MA Degree in Reading and Writing Education from City University
- National Endowment for the Humanities winner 2001/2—studied Shakespeare at the University of Delaware and in Stratford-upon-Avon
Additional Information
- I enjoy playing music in my classroom and have thousands of (legally obtained!!!) songs on my iTunes. I create playlists for each class based on student requests.
- I collect books and love to read, but watch too much television for my own good.
- I watch a lot of sports, including the Sounders, Mariners, Seahawks, Manchester United Red Devils, and even some Nascar.
- I am an avid quilter and am a huge fan of the Twilight series, Disneyland and Mickey Mouse.
- I have been to Europe many times—and have taken students on summer trips.
- I have a pretty good sense of humor…must be the Mountain Dew…
- My room is a mess, but I know where EVERYTHING is—really.
- Yes, I do love the Beatles!
