A variety of hand-ons experiences is what you receive in the CTE classes in Ms. Toms' room. 9th grade students participate in Career Explorations, immersing themselves in information and activities revolving around the world of work. Guest Speakers, career skills, and job readiness are part of the package in Career Explorations.
Lastly, the day is completed is Environmental and Advanced Environmental Biology. This class focuses on the biology found in nature, primarily in forests, soils, land, and water. The application of these biological processes is carried out in our on-site Aquaculture Lab, which participates in a cooperative fish project with the Department of Fish & Wildlife. Advanced students are second-year enrollees with background in biology, chemistry and introductory environmental biology concepts. These students not only assist in managing the laboratory exercises, but also complete a year-long Agri-science research project comparable to a thesis project.
About the Teacher
Just as varied as the classes is the background of the teacher. With experience in Marketing, Ms. Toms offers a undergraduate experience in Agriculture to her students, as well as a graduate study in Business Management. Personally, she enjoys outdoor living and travel.
